Cleburne’s Division is devoted to portraying history as it happened as closely as we can. Every reenactment organization should operate under the mandate that you re-create the history as the history happens. Sure events fall short or need improvement, ours being as prone to this as the next. We may not be on original battlefield or execute the exact historical maneuvers at the exact historical times they occurred but we will provide an event based on the framework for the battle in question.

With that said Cleburne’s Division is planning on doing things a little differently at this event than has been done in the past. Our main battles will be divided into two parts. Saturday’s main battle will encompass Part 1 and Sunday’s battle Part 2. We will unfold the historical events surrounding Missionary Ridge over the two day period, along with the possibility of a dawn tactical Saturday morning. If you participated in the dawn tactical at Shiloh this past March expect the same at Missionary Ridge.

Saturday’s battle will contain components of the capture of Orchard Knob by the Army of the Cumberland as well as Sherman’s four division attack against Cleburne’s one division and Hooker’s attack on the Confederate left flank.

Sunday’s battle will commence at the base of the ridge which has two lines of rifle pits one a third of the way up the ridge and the second two thirds of the way up the hill. As the Federals simulate the Army of the Cumberland attacking Bragg’s center and making their way up the ridge to the gun emplacements fighting the entire way. The ridge on site that we will use has about a twenty degree incline for about 100 to 150 yards. It is not an easy climb especially when the Confederates will be continuously pouring fire into the Federal ranks.

Of course the battle will unfold as it happens but we will utilize this framework to represent what actually took place. The battles will be drawn out to last well over an hour so those in attendance should make every effort to have ample rounds available. The opportunity to burn lots of powder exists.

Safety is important! And all participants should exercise extra caution on Sunday as the battle for the ridge takes place….brogans are not exactly easy to climb in. Main thing, enjoy yourself and be as authentic as possible in and around the camps all weekend.
