Home Cleburne’s Division is deeply committed to proper portrayal of the Civil War Soldier from 1861-1865. We do not want to discourage attendance or be stitch Nazi’s – we do however ask you to cooperate and make commitment to comply with our regulations. This is to assure we properly honor those Soldiers of old we portray and do them honor and justice.
We additionally ask you to carefully consider your camp and make sure that the farby stuff is either hidden or kept out of site
Confederate Uniform and Equipment Regulations (Infantry)
Infantry/Cavalry/Artillery
Jackets/Coats
Shell Jackets
Preferred- wool or jean cloth body of an Early War Pattern and style.
Not recommended- Richmond Depot (period) Late War Depot type jackets (1864-1865)
Period civilian variants (work jackets) are appropriate (wool or cotton)
Sack Coats
(wool or jean cloth) are appropriate. These would include Civilian variants.
Early War Frock Coats (wool or jean cloth) are appropriate.
Trousers
Appropriate Depot Issue Confederate trousers are encouraged
PERIOD civilian trousers are encouraged
Zouave Pantaloons and Officers Red trousers are not permitted unless documented to a specific Confederate Unit engaged at Missionary Ridge. Please contact Command Staff for pre-approval in these cases.
** Sky Blue pants UNLESS of a Mexican war pattern are discouraged
BUCKSKINS, FRENCH /INDIAN OR REVOLUTIONARY WAR, FUR TRADE ATTIRE IS PROHIBITED
Footwear
All period footwear – brogans, work shoes and civilian cut shoes are acceptable.

Hats and Caps
Preferred Hats
Beehive style, kepis and forage caps, PERIOD straw, wheel and workman type caps, most slouch hats***
*** No modern distressed Stetson type cowboy hats
No dead animals (coonskin, bears, coyote, wolf, fox etc.) will be acceptable head-gear
No animal parts (tails or feathers)
Fez type head gear (unless part off an approved impression)
Leather Gear
Preferred early-mid war Confederate or Federal issue
Mexican War leather gear and earlier US or British manufacture are acceptable
Richmond Arsenal is discouraged
Buckles and Plates
Preferred examples of buckles –PERIOD State Specific issue for the component you represent (example –Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi or Texas)
State specific buckles for those NOT engaged historically at Missionary Ridge are discouraged
US turned upside down and US M. 1851 rectangular plates are acceptable
Prewar Militia plates and buckles are acceptable
Period civilian iron and roller buckles are acceptable
CS Ovals are acceptable
Late War Atlanta Arsenal Type Plates are discouraged
Buttons
Examples -state specific buttons (the same policy as under buckles regarding State Involvement will be required) Federal “block” buttons, early local manufacture and early import buttons (block I’s etc), period civilian buttons
Canteens
Preferred canteens
Wood Gardner and Nuckolls, Wood militia, M-1858 Federal and Confederate variants, Louisiana “bulls eye”** Mexican war Federal issue
Bulls eye Canteens is ok
Modern Canteens ** of ANY variety are PROHIBITED
(These will include Indian War and Span-Am war variants of M-1858)
Haversacks
Should be of a period design of Civilian, US issue or Confederate type
Knives
D-Guards, PERIOD Bowies and Rifleman Knives are acceptable –
**** However any knife MUST have an appropriate sheath that secures the knife into the scabbard ******.
Knives should NOT be brandished or out of sheaths during combat scenarios unless preapproved by command staff.
NO WEARING OF KNIVES WITHOUT APPROPRIATE SHEATH –THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WILL BE STRONGLY ENFORCED –BAYONETS MUST ALSO BE SHEATHED
Union Uniform and Equipment Guidelines
Shell Jackets, Sack Coats and Frocks – Cincinnati Depot type highly recommended – most early to mid war patterns and variety will be acceptable.
New York style shells jackets and frocks are discouraged
Trousers – either pre-war blues or early war sky blues ok
Leather gear, canteens and haversacks – regulation issue -nothing after summer of 1863 recommended
Headgear – slouch-hats, civilian hats (1840-1863) ok – forage caps and kepis ok
Footwear – regulation federal brogans or boots
Firearms for both Federal and Confederate

Period Civilian Target, hunting and Sporting Rifles although NOT prohibited MUST have pre-approval of Command Staff. Consideration of these weapons will be safety as well as historic interpretation for the Battle.
Ultimately “proof of weapons service” will fall on the participant
Flintlock as well as ALL 2 band muskets must be pre-approved and will meet the safety as well as proof of service test aforementioned.
Shotguns are PROHIBITED for use by Infantry
PROHIBITED FIREARMS
ALL MODERN CARTRIDGE WEAPONS ARE PROHIBITED FROM THE EVENT.
(Possession of modern firearms will warrant expulsion from the event)
PERIOD BREECHLOADERS (unless pre-approved by Command Staff)
Ultimately “proof of weapons service” will fall on the participant
Pistols and Single shot handguns
Only accredited officers (infantry) – cavalry and Artillery personnel will be permitted to carry pistols and single shot handguns.
Use of handguns by Infantry Officers, Cavalry and Artillery during scenarios MUST meet all safety requirements.
Accredited Infantry Officer MAY CARRY 1 handgun
Artillery personal may carry 1 handgun
Dismounted Cavalry will be treated as Infantry under this definition unless pre-approved.
Miscellaneous
Military impressions or equipment not of a norm or previously addressed MUST be
approved by Command staff

MARINE AND NAVAL IMPRESSIONS ARE PROHIBITED (unless can be documented as present at the battle)
